Putting out the flames of Acne - The link between what you eat, your stress level, and your acne outbreaks.
There are many dermatologists who believe that food, and stress have no connection to acne but there are many other dermatologists who know the truth, that there is an undeniable link between what you eat, your stress level and your acne outbreaks.
Acne is an inflammatory condition. One thing many people are not aware of is that an unbalanced blood sugar level can lead to acneic outbreaks by increasing the sebaceous gland activity. When you eat blood sugar spiking foods your pancreas responds by releasing large quantities of Insulin. Remember insulin is a hormone and we need to keep our hormones balanced if we want good skin.
Eating unhealthy foods at irregular times during the day will not only cause hormonal fluctuations but will also cause internal inflammation in the body. Think of acne as fire rising up to the face. One of the best things to put out the fires of acne is Omega 3 fatty acids. Omega 6 will increase the fire so be sure to limit your ingestion of these oils and be sure up your dose of healthy omega 3 oils to keep inflammation down.
Chinese medicine looks at acne from a holistic point of view and addresses the condition internally through Chinese herbal medicine, acupuncture and food cures. What you put on your skin is also very important. Your skin requires topical nutrients the same way your body requires healthy foods. When looking to treat acne it is important to follow a holistic approach because it is both an internal and external condition.
7 Tips to put out the flames of acne:
1. Drink water to carry away waste products.
2. Regulate the immune system and digestive system with probiotics.
3. Increase your intake of essential fatty acids (omega 3 oils). I would highly recommend supplementing with NutraSea fish oil. This will keep the flames leading to acneic outbreaks down.
4. Eat hormone- and antibiotic-free meats that are grass fed. What an animal is fed during rearing is very important. A corn/grain based diet is standard livestock fare and it results in a very high omega 6 content and higher overall fat compared to a grass fed animal. Grass fed animals have a much higher content of omega 3.
5. Eat a whole foods diet high in vegetables, fish and whole grains to detox. Vegetables are necessary to decrease inflammation. Eat vegetables that are bright in color they have the highest nutritional value.
6. Avoid inflammatory foods. These foods include coffee, chocolate, dairy, sugar, potatoes, corn, peanuts, and wheat, and alcohol. All these foods are difficult for the body to digest and create inflammation.
7. Use products that provide your skin with topical nutrients, antioxidants, and vitamins. Products should treat existing breakouts, reduce the frequency of breakouts, reduce scarring and support the skin.
